Message from the Board
8 January 2017
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
The Board of ASAL (the Board) would like to update the community on the recent progress that has been made by the Board.
Firstly the Board would like to share the outcome of a meeting held at a senior level with the Commonwealth Department of Education and Training (DET) last week. The Board was represented by Mrs. Azra Khan, Chairperson and Mr. M. Suhail Khan, Director. The meeting was very frank and issues at hand were discussed thoroughly. The issues raised by DET were discussed in great detail and have either been completed or are in the process of completion. The Board is now working on the next report and we will have a detailed evidenced based response to DET by 3 February 2017. The Board is very confident that, Insha Allah, we will have a very favourable outcome to this submission.
In the meantime the Board is also pleased to confirm that DET funding has been received for the months of November and December 2016 and ACT Government funding has been received for the next six months rather than on a monthly basis. The further good news is that registration for 2017 of the Islamic School of Canberra (the School) is also imminent as all the requirements have now been met for registration.
Allhumdullilah, on the basis of this good news, the Board wishes to assure the Canberra Community as well as parents, students and staff that the School is in very good hands and will continue to operate and flourish in to the future. The hard work over the last seven months to build trust and confidence in the School's governance and operation has seen the enrolment of students increase to about 230 students. We hope insha Allah to have close to 250 students when the academic year commences.
We thank you for your continued confidence in the Board and wish to reiterate the Boards total commitment to the continued operational well being of the School for the foreseeable future.
Ms Azra Khan
